Health and Safety policy
Movers Bow Health and Safety Policy
This Health and Safety Policy sets out the principles and procedures that Movers Bow follows to protect the health, safety and welfare of employees, contractors, customers and members of the public during all removal and associated activities. Our services involve the handling, lifting and transportation of goods, and we recognise the specific risks that can arise from this work. We are committed to managing these risks responsibly and in full compliance with applicable health and safety legislation and industry best practice.
Our Health and Safety Commitment
Movers Bow is dedicated to providing a safe working environment and to preventing injury, ill health and damage to property. We integrate health and safety considerations into planning, decision making and day to day operations. We continually review and improve our systems so that our teams can carry out moving, packing, loading, transport and unloading activities safely and efficiently.
We aim to promote a positive safety culture in which all personnel understand their responsibilities, feel confident to raise concerns and actively participate in improving standards. Safety will never be compromised for speed, convenience or cost.
Legal Compliance and Responsibilities
Movers Bow complies with relevant health and safety laws, regulations and approved codes of practice. We monitor changes in legislation and recognised guidance to ensure our arrangements remain current and effective.
Overall responsibility for health and safety rests with the company leadership, who ensure appropriate resources, time and competence are in place. Management is responsible for implementing this policy, carrying out risk assessments, maintaining equipment, providing training and enforcing safe systems of work.
Employees and contractors have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. They must follow instructions, use equipment correctly, report hazards and incidents promptly and co operate with the company in fulfilling its health and safety obligations.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
We identify and assess risks related to our removal services, taking into account manual handling, vehicle movements, working in and around client premises, use of equipment and environmental conditions. Risk assessments are reviewed regularly and whenever new equipment, processes or locations are introduced.
Based on these assessments, Movers Bow develops safe systems of work, including clear methods for lifting and carrying items, using trolleys and handling heavy or awkward loads. Where reasonably practicable, mechanical aids and team lifting are used to reduce the risk of injury. Staff are instructed to avoid hazardous shortcuts and to stop work if a situation arises that they believe cannot be carried out safely.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core element of removal work and presents a significant potential for strains, sprains and other musculoskeletal injuries. To reduce these risks, our procedures address careful planning of each move, route selection within premises, and the use of appropriate handling techniques and aids.
All equipment, including trolleys, dollies, lifting straps, blankets and securing devices, is selected, inspected and maintained to suitable standards. Faulty or damaged items are taken out of service promptly. Only trained personnel are permitted to use specialist equipment.
Vehicle Safety and Loading Practices
Movers Bow maintains its vehicles in a safe and roadworthy condition, following regular inspection and servicing schedules. Drivers are required to carry out pre use checks and to report any defects immediately. Safe driving practices are expected at all times, with particular attention to loading and unloading areas where pedestrians and other vehicles may be present.
Loads are positioned, distributed and secured to prevent movement, instability or damage during transit. Staff are trained in safe loading procedures, including weight limits, use of securing points and methods for stacking items to avoid collapse or shifting.
Working in Client Premises
When working in homes, offices or other premises, our teams take care to protect both people and property. Routes are kept as clear as reasonably practicable, trip hazards are identified, and appropriate measures such as the use of protective coverings are applied where necessary.
We aim to minimise disturbance to occupants and visitors while maintaining safe access and egress. Where work involves stairs, narrow corridors, shared entrances or unusual features, specific steps are taken to plan movements and, if required, adjust staffing, equipment or timing to maintain safety.
Training, Information and Supervision
Movers Bow provides suitable and sufficient training for all employees and relevant contractors. This includes induction training, instruction in manual handling, safe lifting, use of equipment, vehicle safety, incident reporting and emergency procedures. Refresher training is provided periodically and when there are changes to work methods or equipment.
Supervisors and team leaders are responsible for monitoring work on site, ensuring that safe practices are followed and providing guidance where needed. Information about specific risks and control measures for each job is communicated before work begins, and any changes are shared as they arise.
Accident Reporting, Investigation and First Aid
All accidents, incidents, near misses and cases of work related ill health must be reported as soon as possible. Movers Bow investigates these events to identify root causes, implement corrective actions and share lessons learned to prevent recurrence.
Appropriate first aid arrangements are in place, including access to first aid supplies and trained personnel. Where necessary, emergency services are contacted without delay, and sites are made safe to protect others.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
Movers Bow encourages open communication on health and safety matters. Feedback from employees, contractors and customers is welcomed and used to refine procedures, improve equipment selection and adjust training content. Regular reviews of this policy and related arrangements are carried out to ensure that they remain effective and proportionate to the risks associated with our removal services.
By adhering to this Health and Safety Policy, Movers Bow seeks to provide a safe, reliable and professional moving service while protecting the wellbeing of everyone involved in or affected by our operations.
